Handshakes to avoid
·
Bone-crusher: This macho
handshake is extra firm and displays physical power. It intimidates the other
person and non-verbally conveys that you like to maintain a dominant
position.
· Limp handshake: Commonly
extended by women, this handshake conveys lack of self-esteem and confidence.
· Glove handshake: Common
amongst political leaders, it involves covering the person’s hand with both
your hands to subtly signal “I am there for you”. This handshake is ideal for
funerals and condolence meetings.
· Extended
handshakes: Pumping the hand several times and refusing
to let go is embarrassing and creates awkwardness.
